Poster Design Contest 2008!

Ottawa Elementary School students, grades K to 8, put your artistic talents to the test by entering the Kiwanis Read-a-thon Poster Design Contest, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, J. FitzGerald McCurdy, Ottawa Area Canadian Tire Dealers, Nicholas Hoare Books and HarperCollins Canada Ltd.

Students will create original poster artwork that expresses the slogan, "Not Now Mom, I’m Reading!"

Grand prize winner receives a new bicycle courtesy of the Ottawa Area Canadian Tire Dealers and tea, for you and a friend, with international best selling author J. FitzGerald McCurdy at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier.

First prize winners (students and school libraries) win a signed copy of Secrets of the Dragon Riders, an anthology of critical works by your favourite fantasy authors (including J. FitzGerald McCurdy) on Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle. Secrets of the Dragon Riders is published by BenBella Books exclusively for Borders and Waldens bookstores in the U.S. and will be released this summer prior to the release of Paolini’s third book in the Inheritance Cycle. Second prize winners from each school receive books courtesy of Nicholas Hoare Books Sussex Avenue Ottawa and HarperCollins Canada Ltd.

Entry deadline is May 9, 2008.

Winners will be announced May 21, 2008

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Designs must be submitted in full colour on 11” x 17” paper UNFOLDED.
  • Designs may be created by hand—drawing, photos, collage, plasticine, etc. or on computer.
  • The design must be such that it can easily be enlarged.
  • Designs must include the words Kiwanis Read-a-thon.
  • The theme of "Not Now Mom, I’m Reading!" must be incorporated into the design.
  • All entries must be identified with the student’s name, school, teacher’s name and grade. All submissions become the property of the Kiwanis Read-a-thon and will not be returned.
  • The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa has the right to reproduce the designs, or modify them, and use them to promote Read-a-thon in any media chosen.
  • All winning entries will be displayed on the Kiwanis Read-a-thon website www.kiwanisreadathon.org.
  • This is an individual event. No teams please!
  • Winners will be announced May 21, 2008.
  • First and Second place prizes will be delivered to the winners at their schools.
